A DRIVER left the scene of a road traffic incident because the other motorist made him feel “uneasy”, Newcastle West Court heard.

Edward Roche, aged 49, of Manor Lawn, Tralee pleaded guilty to careless driving; failing to report an occurrence; failure to give appropriate information and failing to remain at the scene.

Garda Errol Flynn said he was called to a road traffic accident involving two vehicles in Abbeyfeale on May 28, 2022.

Garda Flynn said there was front side wing damage to the injured party’s vehicle. The investigating garda said the defendant “stopped briefly” but information was not exchanged. I met with him the following day and he made full admissions,” said Garda Flynn.

Enda O’Connor, solicitor for Mr Roche, asked Garda Flynn if it was a low velocity impact and if the damage caused was modest? Garda Flynn agreed.

Mr O’Connor said his client was travelling from Tralee to Limerick city at the time.

“He did stop. The other driver was animated and Mr Roche became uneasy. Of course he shouldn’t have left the scene. He said the other driver had looked at his disc and reg,” said Mr O’Connor.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican convicted and fined Mr Roche €350 for careless driving.

All other matters were taken into consideration.
