Limerick gardai stop banned driver who was more than five times legal alcohol limit

A MOTORIST who was allegedly caught driving while more than five times the legal alcohol limit was disqualified at the time, gardai have revealed.

According to a post on social media, the  motorist was stopped while driving in the Moyross area of the city on Monday night.

Gardai have not revealed the gender of the motorist or the exact location of the detection for operational and legal reasons.

However, they have confirmed the motorist, who is currently disqualified, failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Mayorstone garda station after being arrested.

According to gardai, an analysis of a breath sample showed a concentration of 46mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The limit for specified drivers is 9mg per 100ml of breath.

It is likely the driver will face prosecution before the courts in relation to the incident.
