BREAKING: Dual carriageway closed between Limerick and Shannon due to multiple-vehicle collision

MOTORISTS heading from Limerick to Clare are warned that the dual carriageway is closed between Limerick and Shannon on the M18 / N18 due to a three-vehicle road traffic collision.

It occurred between Junction 7 Sixmilebridge and Junction 8 Ballycasey at 2.30pm.

TII gave a further update at 3pm to say there was a full road closure of the dual carriageway heading in the direction of Ennis.

The extent of injuries suffered by the occupants of the vehicles, if any, is not known at this time.

There are long tailbacks with traffic said to be at a standstill or crawling along. Traffic is being diverted at Junction 7. Some motorists have been stuck behind the collision for over an hour.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a three-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on the N18 road between Sixmilebridge and Ballycasey in Count Clare this afternoon, Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

"As this is an ongoing incident no further information is available at this time."
