Engine ripped from car in high-speed collision close to Limerick border

EMERGENCY services rushed to the scene of a high speed collision on the Limerick to Ennis road which resulted in a car on its roof.

It occurred on the N18 between Junction 5 Cratloe and Junction 4 Cratloemoyle, heading in the direction of Limerick city. No serious injuries to the driver have been reported at this time.

Gardai and firefighters responded to the incident, directed traffic and assisted with the clean-up.   

A video of the wreckage has been widely shared on social media. It appears to show the engine ripped from the car due to the force of the high-speed collision.

It is understood that the vehicle hit the barrier and a pole on the side of the road before bouncing back onto the dual carriageway and landing on tis roof.

Separately, gardai are investigating a collision in the same area just a few hours earlier.

“Garsai attended a material damage road traffic collision at Cratloe where a car collided with a deer. It Occurred at approximately 11.55pm on Thursday, May 29. No injuries reported,” said a garda spokesperson.
