The current fixed charge notice for speeding is a €160 fine accompanied by three penalty points
THE NEW static speed safety camera on the N69 clocked 142 motorists speeding in 17 days.
The camera, located at Ballyhomin, Askeaton, County Limerick, commenced operation on Friday, March 14.
Vehicles detected driving in excess of the 100km/h posted speed limit have been subject to prosecution from noon on that date.
The current fixed charge notice (FCN) for a speeding offence is a €160 fine accompanied by three penalty points.

An Garda Siochana has given a statistical breakdown of FCNs for quarter one of 2025. It shows that the static speed safety camera in Askeaton has caught 142 drivers over the speed limit in just over two weeks - March 14 to March 31.
At the announcement of nine new static speed safety cameras last year, including in Askeaton, Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman said speed cameras slow drivers down.
“Static speed safety cameras have been proven in other countries to be highly effective in changing driver behaviour and reducing speed, which is a key contributor to road deaths.
"The lower speeds people drive at, the lower the number of road deaths,” said the assistant commissioner for roads policing and community engagement
The new statistics also showed that 1,004 motorists were caught speeding by the average safety camera system on the Limerick to Dublin motorway in the first three months of the year.
It is in operation on the M7 between Junction 26 Nenagh and Junction 27 Birdhill. This system monitors a driver's average speed over a 9km stretch.
