Major clean-up is planned at Limerick city crossing

A BRIDGE in Limerick city is going to get a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint.
The council’s roads department has acquired funding to do the work at O’Dwyer Bridge in Athlunkard Street.
There will be a tender process to appoint a contractor to do the work involved, council engineer Mike Richardson told members at this month’s metropolitan meeting.
Independent councillor Frankie Daly has hailed the news as a “victory for common sense” after he lobbied the executive for the work to be done.
“It looks derelict at the moment, it’s so shabby. Nobody was doing anything on this bridge,” he said.
“In the end, development funds have paid for this clean-up. But it’s been a painstaking process to get to this stage,” Cllr Daly added.
“I'm welcoming the fact it’s finally happening. It didn’t look great as it is the entry into Corbally, and our city centre in the other direction. We need to lay down a marker - it’s unacceptable to not maintain our bridges.”
