A WELL-known GAA figure has been formally charged with in excess of 30 charges of sexual assault.
The man who is in his 50s was brought before a sitting of the district court this week after he was charged with 34 sexual assault offences contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law Act.
The alleged offences date back to the 1990s and they are alleged to have happened on various dates over a considerable period of time. The man was arrested and questioned by gardai late last year.
He was charged on the directions of the DPP.
The case has been adjourned until September next to facilitate the preparation of the book of evidence.
The accused was granted bail subject to a number of conditions including the surrendering of his passport.
