Suspicious device found in Limerick city

GARDAI have requested the assistance of the Defence Forces after after a suspicious device was found near Limerick city centre this morning.

GARDAI have requested the assistance of the Defence Forces after after a suspicious device was found near Limerick city centre this morning.

The alarm was raised shortly before 9am when the device was discovered in the porch of a house at Sean Heuston Place by a member of the public.

The area has been sealed off pending the arrival of the bomb disposal squad from Collins Barracks in Cork. It is understood that a number of houses in the area have been evacuated as a precaution.

Initital indications are that the explosive device is a pipe-bomb, which had partially exploded.

Gardai at Henry Street have launched in investigation.
