SEPARATE investigations are underway after an eight-year-old girl, who was living in Limerick city, died in a farming accident last evening.
The girl, who was originally from Latvia, was killed when the bucket of a tractor fell on her while she was playing on a farm near Newtownshandrum in North Cork.
Another girl, aged 11, was seriously injured and was transported by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where her condition has been described as critical.
It’s understood the two children were staying with friends as their parents were away for the weekend. It’s reported the parents of the younger girl returned to Ireland late last night.
Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
