A LIMERICK grandmother has surpassed her target of raising €1 million for charities after 34 years of fundraising, and now plans to raise even more for those in need.
Big-hearted Tina O’Gorman from Pineview Gardens in Moyross, has supported a huge number and range of causes throughout the three decades, from the donating funds to the Special Olympics, to Friends of the Elderly. Even big-hitting Limerick philanthropist JP McManus is said to be an admirer of her work.
In total, she has now raised €1,000,850 for 121 charities throughout the mid-west, after first being motivated to start fundraising at the age of 19 following the death of a relative from cancer. “I am delighted and thrilled. I guess it is something of an achievement,” said the modest lady.
“But I am going to keep going. I’ve been asked to do a few more fundraisers and I will. I don’t want to let anyone down.”
Hawaiian nights, bucket collections, and fancy dress events were all organised by the 54 year-old philanthropist, while the latest red carpet event was held in the Pery Hotel on Glentworth Street on Friday night last, attended by 140 guests.
