A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting an elderly woman in Charleville last weekend.
Liam Smith, who has an address at Batt Donegan Place, Charleville is accused of attacking a women in the town last Sunday night, September 18.
The defendant, who was arrested at his home yesterday morning, was formally charged late last night and he appeared before Newcastle West Court this morning.
Supt Pat McCarthy of Mallow garda station objected to a bail application and Mr Smith was refused bail by Judge Mary O’Halloran.
The defendant was remanded in custody to appear before the same court again next week.
