A LIMERICK man has been granted bail on €10,000 in connection with a major heroin seizure last year.

A LIMERICK man has been granted bail on €10,000 in connection with a major heroin seizure last year.

John McCarthy, 40, from Cliona Park, Moyross, had been granted bail by Judge Tom O’Donnell in Limerick District Court last week, and was remanded on continuing bail yesterday.

The court heard that €5,000 has been lodged as an independent surety, and the same amount will have to be lodged if any of the bail terms are breached.

Mr McCarthy faces three charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act including possession of heroin, possession of the drug for sale or supply, and possession of heroin in excess of C13,000 for sale or supply.

Adam Llewellyn, 18, of Craeval Park, Moyross, and 20 year-old James O’Keeffe of Moylish Crescent, Ballynanty, have also been charged with the same three offences.

The €145,000 worth of heroin was seized at Castlepark Estate, Ballygrennan, Co Clare, on the outskirts of Limerick city on October 15 last year.

All three have been remanded on continuing bail until April 5 when the books of evidence are expected to be ready.
