LIMERICK’S rock in defence Dan Morrissey has married longtime beau Yvonne Maher in his native Castleconnell this weekend.

Yvonne walked down the aisle on Saturday in a packed St Joseph’s Church in the heart of the village. One local told Limerick Live: “It’s the biggest wedding that people can remember. It was a beautiful crisp December day with blue skies.”

A post on Dan’s club, Ahane GAA’s Facebook page reads: “On behalf of the club we want to wish Dan Morrissey and his fiancée Yvonne the very best of luck as they tie the knot today! We wish you both a lifetime of love, happiness and joy together!”

The private couple got engaged at the end of 2024. A photo shared on Instagram showed Yvonne sporting a beautiful ring on her finger.

However, no photos have emerged thus far of the happy couple on their wedding day. Fellow All Star Kyle Hayes did repost a picture of himself with Diarmaid Byrnes and Declan Hannon at the reception.

Dan would have played with all three over the years in an impenetrable half back line.

The Ahane GAA clubman becomes the latest Limerick hurler to get married while still playing at the top level. He joins the aforementioned Diarmaid and Declan, Nickie Quaid, Seamus Flanagan, Shane Dowling, Graeme Mulcahy to tie the knot.

And there are more nuptials to come as Sean Finn, William O'Donoghue, David Reidy and Gearoid Hegarty are all engaged

Dan, alongside brother Tom, has been a huge part of the Limerick team’s five All-Irelands since 2018 and six Munster championship titles since 2019. Dan, aged 32, confirmed in October he would be lining out for Limerick again in 2026.

He has been a rock at half back and full back and even popped up with a point in the 2022 All-Ireland final against Kilkenny. Lifting the Mick Mackey Cup, presented for the first time in 2022 in honour of the Ahane and Limerick great, has been particularly proud for Dan and Tom.

Dan has also excelled off the pitch as he graduated from the University of Limerick back in 2015, where he achieved an impressive first-class honours in Law and Accounting, Accounting and Taxation before completing a MSc in Accounting.

He went on to complete the Chartered Accountancy (CAI) exams and Chartered Tax exams with the Irish Tax Institute. Dan is now a senior tax manager.

Wife, Yvonne, is equally a high achiever with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and Promotion from University College Cork, two postgraduate degrees from the National University of Ireland and professional certificate from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Yvonne works for Barnardos Ireland.

A little known fact about Dan is he represented Ireland in chess when he was a child. Now, he has married his Queen.
