BREAKING: Man dies in two-vehicle collision in County Limerick

GARDAI are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Ardagh, County Limerick this Monday evening.

Shortly after 6pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of R521 and R523 in Ardagh village.

The motorcyclist, a male aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The male driver of the car was transferred to University Hospital Kerry for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

The intersection will remain closed overnight for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators tomorrow morning.

A number of diversions are currently in place on the R521 and R523 roads around Ardagh village with local access only.

Motorists, especially those with Heavy Goods Vehicles, are advised to avoid where possible but the following local diversions are in place:

Vehicles travelling from Newcastle West towards Ardagh will be diverted at Churchtown, Newcastle West on the N21.

Vehicles travelling on the R523 from the Carrigkerry/Athea direction will be diverted onto the L1332 at Knocknaboha onto the Old Mill Road.

Vehicles travelling on the R521 from the N69/Shanagolden towards Ardagh will be diverted at Dale Cross into Ardagh village.

Vehicles travelling from the N21 onto the R523 through Ardagh Village will be diverted onto the L1338 at Dale Grove, Ardagh Village

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
