Andy Nolan climbing Aconcagua, Argentina, in 2022
MOUNTAIN climbing enthusiast Andy Nolan will be climbing Vinson Massif in Antarctica to raise money for the Children’s Grief Centre.
Andy Nolan has been attempting to climb the seven summits challenge, which involves climbing the tallest peaks on each of the seven continents.
Since 2018 Andy has completed Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Aconcagua in South America, Denali (McKinley) in North America and Kosciusko in Australia.
The Charleville native plans to climb Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December, which peaks at 4,892m. This will complete a total of six of his seven tallest peaks goal, with Everest remaining as his final climb.
Andy explained, “When I decided to do Kilimanjaro in 2018, which was my first time in a tent, I had no idea the path that trip would take me on and I had zero notions of attempting the seven summits. I don’t think I knew anything about the challenge at that time to be honest”.
Only 14 Irish people have completed the 7 summits, and the global figure is approximately 500.

“I always had the mindset that these types of personal endeavours should be used to raise awareness and vital funds for worthwhile charities,” Andy continued.
On his previous climbs, he chose the Irish Cancer Society and Laura Lynn Children’s Hospital as his charities of choice.
He decided to use this climb to raise funds for the Children’s Grief Centre, as he wanted to raise money for “a smaller, local charity, and it’s closer to home”.
The Children’s Grief Centre provides vital support to young people coping with the loss of a loved one, offering them a safe space to express their feelings and navigate their grief.
“The work they do is truly transformative, helping children and teenagers find hope and healing during some of the most challenging times in their lives,” Andy explained.
“By supporting this charity initiative, you are also supporting these young individuals, helping to ensure that the Children’s Grief Centre can continue its essential work.
“Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference,” he added.
