Hundreds of homes across Limerick are without power after lightning strikes across the country on Sunday night.

Met Eireann had issued a Status Yellow weather warning for Limerick and the rest of Ireland for Sunday evening, August 11, into Monday morning, which predicted thundery downpours.

However these downpours also brought major lightning strikes across the country, leaving thousands without power, according to ESB's PowerCheck.

ESB are apologising for the loss of supply and say they are "currently working to restore power as quickly as possible."

According to the PowerCheck site, power is set to be restored to homes and businesses across the county between 2pm and 6pm this Monday, August 12, with some areas in West Limerick already seeing power restored.
