Trade union campaign launches in Limerick

THE BETTER in a Trade Union campaign has been launched in Limerick led by the Irish Congress Trade Unions (ICTU).

This initiative aims to underscore the myriad benefits that trade unions bring to individuals and workplaces across Ireland.

The campaign is supported by prominent affiliates including SIPTU, Fórsa, Connect, Mandate, FSU, INTO, ASTI, CWU, IMO, and IFUT, among others.

Dan O'Neill, a spokesperson for the Better in a Trade Union campaign in Limerick, SIPTU college learning coordinator and resident of County Limerick, emphasised the campaign's core message, stating.

"Our jobs affect everything, from our finances to our daily routines. Trade unions help maintain a positive balance in our working lives by advocating for good conditions, benefits, and fair pay,” Mr O'Neill said.

Speaking about Limerick's proud history in the story of the trade union movement, O'Neill said: "Limerick's history is full of rich tales of trade unionism that spans generations.

"Dating back to the iconic Limerick General Strike of April 1919, where workers took charge of city affairs and even printed their own currency, to the present day, solidarity and advocacy have been hallmarks of Limerick's working communities."
