GARDAI are appealing for information after a football player was been shot in the arm while playing a match in Rear Cross - close the Limerick/Tipperary border.
The incident happened during a soccer match, being played under floodlights, at a sports venue in the village shortly after 9pm on Saturday.
Gardai have appealed to people who may have been hunting in the area at the time to come forward.
The adult male player who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and brought by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick for further assessment.
His injures are understood not to be life-threatening.
The scene remains cordoned off and a forensic and technical examination will be carried out this Sunday.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
