GARDAI have released two young men have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl in County Limerick earlier this year.

GARDAI have released two young men have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl in County Limerick earlier this year.

An investigation was launched in February after the 16-year-old made a statement to gardaí about being raped.

She complained that she was raped and sexually assaulted by a number of individuals in the Colmanswell area of County Limerick and over the border in the Charleville/ Ballyhea area of County Cork on February 1, last.

A number of searches were conducted in the Kilmallock and Charleville areas in February and several items were seized and sent for forensic analysis.

Two males - aged 16 and 18 - were arrested yesterday morning as part of the ongoing invetsigation. They were detaiined at Bruff and Mallow Garda stations before being released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the incident.
