A LIMERICK man is expected to be extradited from Bulgaria in the coming days after he was arrested on foot of a European arrest warrant.

Bulgarian police arrested the 33-year-old along with his brother at an apartment in the coastal resort of Sunny Beach yesterday.

It is understood that a number of handguns, as well as quantities of drugs and cash were found during the raid.

The man - who is regarded as a senior figure in a criminal gang in the city - is to be extradited back to Ireland to face charges of threatening a witness in a court case.

The DPP had directed that he be charged in relation to The offence which is alleged to have happened almost three years ago. However, he fled the country in 2010 before he was charged.

The man, who will appear in court in Limerick once extradited, was previously been traced to the UK and to Prague but escaped capture.
