LIMERICK County Council has officially endorsed Mary Davis’ bid for the presidency.
At its September meeting, a formal motion supporting her nomination was passed by 13 votes to zero. Members of the Fine Party abstained from the vote.
A number of councillors spoke in favour of the motion, which was proposed by Cllr Michael Collins and seconded by Cllr Pat Fitzgerald.
However, Cllr David Naughton criticised Mary Davis for not allowing the local authority to consider supporting another candidate as she had secured the support of enough councils prior to the meeting.
Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Cllr Mary Harty, earlier told the meeting that Dana Rosemary Scallon had asked to address the meeting but that she had advised her not to attend.
