Man arrested on suspicion of murdering Martin Purcell

GARDAI investigating the murder of Martin Purcell have arrested a man on suspicion of his murder.

GARDAI investigating the murder of Martin Purcell have arrested a man on suspicion of his murder.

The suspect, who is aged in his 30s, was arrested in Limerick City centre shortly after 4 o'clock this afternoon.

He is being detained at Henry Street Garda station under Section four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held without charge for up to to 24 hours.

The body of Mr Purcell, who was orginally from the Fairgreen, was found at a flat at Wickham Street on Friday morning.

Post mortem results showed he died after being stabbed a number of times.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday.
