LIMERICK City of Culture director Mike Fitzpatrick has been admitted to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack.

The culture boss, who oversaw the successful delivery of Royal de Luxe’s show to Limerick last weekend, was admitted to hospital this Wednesday evening, and was accompanied by city arts officer and arts and culture manager for City of Culture, Sheila Deegan.

“Mike went to hospital and he’s fine, he is having a few tests. He wasn’t feeling well yesterday evening,” said a spokesperson for City of Culture.

“He is making a full recovery and should be out in a few days,” added the spokesperson.

The Limerick Leader understands that the head of school at LIT’s Limerick School of Art and Design - who was seconded to the year of culture in January - suffered a suspected heart attack but is now stable.

Mr Fitzpatrick is a director of eva International and a former director/curator of Limerick City Gallery of Art.
