AS candidates contesting next month’s local and European elections have begun erecting posters across Limerick, the deadline to officialy register as a candidate is fast approaching.
The window for receipt of nominations for local election candidates opens at midday this Saturday, April 26, and will close a week later at midday on Saturday, May 3.
Candidates can nominate themselves or have a proposer from their electoral area nominate them at the corporate services department at City Hall.
In addition, independent (non-party) candidates must either pay a €100 deposit or include sworn statements of support from 15 people who are on the electoral register in the area they intend seeking election.
An appointment to lodge nomination papers can be made with returning officer Eugene Griffin by contacting 061 407195 or emailing email@example.com.
As polling takes place on May 23, today was the first day that election posters could be legally erected. All of the posters must be removed by May 30.
