Limerick gardai investigate ‘nasty’ theft

Gardai are appealing for information about a “nasty” incident which occurred in the Corbally area of the city over the weekend,

A woman was attacked at around 6.15pm on Sunday as she was walking near the Supervalu at Grove Island.

“She was approached from behind by two males. One of these suspects grabbed the lady’s handbag and then pushed her to the ground before running off in the direction of the city centre,” said a garda spokesperson who added that the woman injured her ankle.

According to gardai, who have recovered CCTV from the area, the culprits were wearing dark clothing with hats.

The woman’s handbag is described as being a soft bronze coloured handbag containing a white coloured flip phone with large numbers and a quantity of cash.

“This was a terrifying ordeal for the lady in question. not only did she have personal belongings taken from her but she also sustained an ankle injury as a result of the attack,” said the garda spokesperson who is appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Grove Island roundabout last Sunday and who noticed anything unusual to contact them.
