INVESTIGATIONS are underway after Shannon Airport was evacuated for almost half-an-hour this morning.

INVESTIGATIONS are underway after Shannon Airport was evacuated for almost half-an-hour this morning.

The airport was evacuated as a precaution after a manually-operated fire alarm was activated in the main terminal building shortly after 7am.

However, it was quickly established that there was no fire and the hundreds of people who were forced to leave were allowed to return at around 7.45am.

No flights were delayed as a result of the evacuation and it is understood an investigation is now underway to establish how the fire alarm was triggered.
