A WELLNESS event will take place in Limerick city early next month with all proceeds being donated to Limerick Suicide Watch.

Tickets for ‘Head Above Water’ which takes place on July 9, cost €10. The event will take place from 10am to 12pm at the Curraghgour Boat Club and people are encouraged to register via Eventbrite.

Eight Limerick businesses will take part, one of which includes Paul Ryan, owner of DUO Ireland.

Speaking about the significance of the event Fiona Griffin, organiser and owner of Wild Folk said: “Our mission is to break the stigma around how people are judged or treated because of their mental health.

"We want folk to know they don’t have to suffer in silence, there is always someone who wants to listen. We all have a loved one that has struggled with their mental health at some point and I hope our morning encourages those that are fighting an internal battle to reach out and ask for help.”

Fiona continued: “I want to build a community of support and if I help one person in the crowd it will be a success for me. I have been touched by suicide therefore choosing Limerick Suicide Watch has big significance for me.”

On the day, participants will enjoy a cold dip in the river, breathwork and yoga as well as music performed by artist Bob O’Brien and a warm cup of tea to relax.

The event is an important initiative to not only highlight mental health but the river itself and the positive aspects it brings to the city.
