TWO youths have been arrested in relation to an alleged sexual assault on a young girl at a popular nightclub.
The assault, which was described by gardai as “a very serious incident”, is alleged to have occurred at Club D’Ville in Charleville on St Valentine’s weekend.
It is understood that there were in the region of 1,000 teenagers attending the club which is a popular social spot for students from towns and villages across County Limerick.
“Two males have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing,” said Supt Pat McCarthy of Mallow garda station this week.
The alleged victim who is from County Limerick is understood to be 15 years-of-age.
According to gardai, one youth was arrested last week while the other youth was arrested three weeks ago. Both teenagers are understood to be from County Cork.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred inside in the nightclub. Gardai have examined extensive CCTV footage from the club on the night in question, February 13.
“It is a very serious incident. It was a juvenile disco,” Supt McCarthy, who is leading the garda investigation, said last February.
According to sources, the club was particularly busy on Valentine’s weekend and it was “a full house” for the Friday night under 18 event. It is understood that the club can accommodate a capacity crowd of 1,200 people.
When details of the allegations came to light, a number of parents from Kilmallock and Bruree posted comments saying they would never allow their child to attend the club again. Parents also contacted the hotel requesting further information in relation to the alleged incident.
The nightclub, which is located on the grounds of the popular Charleville Park Hotel and Leisure Club, which is located on the main Limerick to Cork road, includes four bars, two dance floors, a VIP Velvet Lounge and an expansive covered smoking area.
