Incredible story brought to life by aerial flight at Limerick venue

Freefalling is the one-woman show of Limerick playright and writer Georgina Miller

AN ‘extraordinary’ true story will be brought to life in ‘an incredible way’ at the Belltable.

Imagine you’re travelling the world - jumping out of planes, diving with sharks, living your best life and your body stops working but no one knows why. Stranded on a tiny island, in need of a ventilator. Time is of the essence. You have to be rescued by air and then the ground starts shaking.

This story is the one of Limerick writer and performer, Georgina Miller. And, Freefalling is her one-woman show.

Speaking of her new work, Georgina said: “It’s a one-woman show that I have written based on my own personal experience. Um, I went travelling 14 years ago and had an incredible time, ticked off all the things off my bucket list that I had always wanted to do. However, towards the end of those travels, everything that possibly could go wrong also happened to me.”

All of a sudden, the artist became quite ill. She recalled: “It was a very rare condition. An autoimmune condition in which there was ascending paralysis from my feet up through my body, so time was of the essence which I didn't realise in terms of getting me treated and figuring out what was wrong with me because this paralysis was spreading up towards my torso and my lungs and I would have needed a ventilator to keep me alive.”

Brought to life in “an incredible way,” Freefalling captures the joy of living but also the terror of being trapped in a body that refuses to function through adrenaline-filled aerial flight.

Speaking of the production, she noted: “I’ve been dreaming of telling the story of Freefalling on stage for over a decade. I’m incredibly grateful for the Lime Tree Theatre/ Belltable’s support for the play, from the initial commission and development stages during my time as artist-in-residence last year through to its current production stage. I pinch myself daily that Rough Magic, is co-producing the show. And by bringing in the aerial expertise of Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company here in Limerick, we’ve managed to lift the show to thrilling new heights”.

Freefalling runs fom June 13 to June 15 at the Belltable.
