GARDAI have been given additional time to retain more than €8,000 in cash which was seized during an investigation into alleged drugs offences.
The money was seized from a man when gardai searched his home on the north side of the city just over a year ago.
At a vacation sitting of Limerick Court, Detective Garda Keith Harmon sought an extension of a previous court order allowing gardai to retain the money to assist them in their investigations.
Sgt Donal Cronin told the court a formal application to have the cash forfeited is currently being prepared on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Solicitor Sarah Ryan, representing the owner of the money, said her client was seeking the return of the cash. However, as he was not present in court Judge John O’Neill said he was granting the application, which allows gardai to retain the money until November 27, next.
