AN EASTERN European man has been sent forward for trial at Limerick Circuit Court after he was charged with sexually assaulting and defiling a child under the age of 15 in Newcastle West on four occasions.
The 34-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have carried out the offences at his home address in Newcastle West within a three-month period from June to August 2010.
It is understood that the alleged victim is related to the accused.
The man appeared before a sitting of Newcastle West Court, where State solicitor Aidan Judge told Judge Mary Larkin that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented to the case being sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Limerick Circuit Court.
Mr Judge said that a book of evidence in the case has been completed and served on the accused.
Solicitor Michael O’Donnell, representing the accused, said that the State had outlined that they had no objection to his client being granted bail pending his appearence before Limerick Circuit Court.
The judge granted him bail but imposed a number of conditions.
The defendant’s free-legal-aid was extended to include a barrister. who will represent him during the trial.
