GARDAI are renewing their appeal for information following a serious assault in the city centre at the weekend.

GARDAI are renewing their appeal for information following a serious assault in the city centre at the weekend.

The alarm was raised shortly before 9pm last Friday when gardai were alerted to an incident at Church Street.

“On arrival they found a man lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive. The man was bleeding from the nose and mouth,” said Sgt Brian Broderick.

The man received treatment at the Mid Western Regional Hospital where he was inititially treated in intensive care. However, his condition has since improved and it is hoped that he will make a good recovery.

“This was a very serious assault that could have proved fatal,” said Sgt Broderick who said progress is being made in the investigation.
