MEET the new Miss Limerick World: 20-year-old Corbally beauty Jemma Burke.
Jemma beat 24 other girls at a special pageant in Molly Malone’s bar on Friday night to land the title of ‘Miss Limerick World’.
Now, the LIT marketing student will bid for the national ‘Miss Ireland’ title at a competition in Dublin this August.
Jemma - who works part time at Brown Thomas and the Icon nightclub (which sponsored her at the competition) - wowed the judges, who included former winners of the event Becky Costello and Valerie Summers.
Speaking to the Limerick Leader after her win, she said: “It was an amazing feeling. This is a great opportunity for me. I don’t know what made me stand out! I was completely shocked, but I am so delighted now though.”
Today, Jemma is travelling to Dublin where she will take part in a photoshoot in readiness for the Miss Ireland competition, scheduled for August 20.
Organiser of Miss Limerick World Michelle Meaney was full of praise for Jemma. “She is a real lady, which is something which comes across when you meet her. She is very unassuming, which is nice. She is the kind of girl who has everything, but doesn’t really realise it herself.
“I think this is something the judges saw, and thought it was lovely. She is very beautiful too: she is tall, has a great personality, and has confidence, but is a little shy, but in a nice way,” she enthused.
