The body of 71-year-old James Boyce was found at his home at St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park on Monday night after his neighbours became concerned for his safety.

It is understood his body was found in an upstairs room at the end-of-terrace house.

The state pathologist, Prof Marie Cassidy, conducted a post mortem examination on Mr Boyce’s body this evening. Her findings have not been released by gardai for operational reasons but gardai have confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched.

Mr Boyce’s home has been preserved and house to house inquiries are being conducted in the area.

Gardai at Henry Street are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
