INVESTIGATIONS are underway after a pipebomb exploded at a house in Rathkeale during the early hours of this morning.
The alarm was raised at around 4.30am when gardai and the fire service responded to reports of a house fire in the Ballywilliam Estate.
A suspicious device was detected when gardai arrived at the scene and the assistance of the army bomb squad was requested.
The device was made safe shortly before 9am and the the second device, which exploded earlier, was analysed and handed over to gardai.
According to gardai, a woman aged her fifties, was in the house at the time.
She was not injured but minor damage was caused to the front door of the house.
Gardai at Rathkeale are investigating the incident.
