TWO men are being questioned by Limerick gardai about the seizure of more than €1m in cash following a five-month operation.
The cash was discovered yesterday when gardai attached to the divisional drugs unit, assisted by detectives from Henry Street, Mayorstone Park and Roxboro Road garda station searched a property at Portcrusha near Castleconnell.
Some of the money was found buried in the ground while some was found in a container, which is located on the farmland.
Two men - aged 53 and 43 - are being questioned at Henry Street garda station under drugs trafficking legislation. One of the men is from Limerick city while the other is from County Limerick.
A garda spokesperson confirmed the intelligence-led operation, targeting organised criminality in Limerick city, has been ongoing since July.
The two men who were arrested can be held for up to seven days without charge.
Investigations into the discovery of the cash are continuing.
