GARDAI are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to a senior GAA figure who was arrested in County Limerick after allegations of sexual assault were made against him.
The man, who is aged in his 50s, was arrested by gardai attached to Bruff garda station at around 9am last Friday.
It is understood he was arrested at his home in the east of the county.
Bruff gardai conveyed the man, who is married with children, to Henry Street garda station for questioning.
He was initially detained for 12 hours under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act.
His period of detention was later extended and he was released without charge at 3pm on Saturday.
It is believed the alleged offences date back to the 1990s.
Garda sources have said that “these are allegations at this stage.”
