THE man whose report led to the Regeneration process in the city is to be appointed to head up a second advisory group on the future of Shannon Airport.
Galbally man John Fitzgerald is expected to head up an advisory group focusing on the practicalities of bringing the assets of Shannon Airport and Shannon Development under the new commercial state company to be established by Transport Minister Leo Varadkar.
Former Dublin City Council manager Mr Fitzgerald’s remit is to focus on the transition of resources from Shannon Development to the new airport authority.
Bord Gais chairman Rose Hynes was already confirmed to head up a first advisory group.
Her group will look at business opportunities, with a focus on how the newly independent airport can generate money.
This will include utilising the €5m Lynx cargo hub slated for the base.
No further names have been confirmed for the second advisory group.
But names already confirmed for the first group include Limerick man, the Central Bank Board member Dr Alan Ahearne.
The government is expected to formally announce the grouping of the second task force in the coming days.
Mr Fitzgerald also served on the Mid-West Jobs Task Force.
