THERE are some 41 paid local subscribers to the adultery website Ashley Madison, according to new figures released.
Among those 41 Limerick users are four women.
The Ashley Madison website, which carries the tagline ‘life is short, have an affair’, is designed to facilitate extramarital affairs, and has a worldwide membership of almost 38m.
The figures for Limerick are the fifth highest in the country after Dublin, which has 477 subscribers, Cork (128), Galway (67), Kildare (50).
More than 260 people based in Munster are identified as paid subscribers on a list leaked as part of an international hacking scandal.
A detailed examination of the records by The Sunday Times identified approximately 1,150 unique users around the country.
The overwhelming majority are male, with just 44 female names contained on the list, just under four per cent of the total. Just 16 identifiable females are located in Munster, with more than half located in Cork.
Those interested in joining can select options such as whether they are interested in something short term, long term, a ‘cyber affair or erotic chat, whatever excites me, anything goes, or undecided.’ Many of the images of those who have signed up are obscured online.
The webite’s publisher Avid Life Media said the release of the details had been an “act of cyber–terrorism”.
