A MAJOR search operation continues in the city this Saturday afternoon after a man was seen entering the water from Thomond Bridge on Friday night.

A MAJOR search operation continues in the city this Saturday afternoon after a man was seen entering the water from Thomond Bridge on Friday night.

The Coast Guard helicopter from Shannon and members of Limerick Marine Search and Rescue as well as gardai and swift water rescue crews from Limerick City Fire Service have all been involved in the operation.

The male, understood to be a middle-aged local man, was seen entering the river from Thomond Bridge at around 7.40pm on Friday.

Crew from Limerick Marine Search and Rescue conducted a dive shortly after first light on Saturday morning. Further dives were being planned for later in the afternoon as the operation continues.
