Limerick students ready to rock you in Queen-inspired musical

THE MERCURY will be rising at Castletroy College students’ performances of hit musical We Will Rock You in the school.

Two evening shows on this Tuesday and Wednesday, March 21 and 22, along with matinee performances for the local primary and post primary schools will take place.

Trevor Griffin, teacher, said they are delighted and excited to produce and perform the musical based on the music of British rock band Queen with the story and script by Ben Elton.

“The show tells the story of a group of bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same.

"The show will take place in the school gym for the very first time which will be specially repurposed for this very special occasion. There is great excitement as I Want It All, Under Pressure, These are the Days of Our Lives, We are the Champions etc can be heard in every corner of the school,” said Mr Griffin.

The cast is assembled from all year groups with the majority of ‘rockers’ coming from the talented transition years.

Producer Anita Cunneen said rehearsals are going “really well and the cast are very excited”.

Principal, Padraig Flanagan added, “This is a wonderful opportunity for our talented students to experience the feeling of being involved in such a professional production”.

Mr Flanagan praised the work and dedication of Ms Cunueen; Catherine Clohessy, musical director; Jessica Bray, director; Jean O’Donoghue, choreographer, and past pupil Robyn Cuneen, assistant choreographer.

If you are looking for A Kind of Magic to rock your evening make sure you get your tickets on sale through the school and its social media platforms.
