Limerick FC crashed out of the EA Sports Cup on Monday night in a 4-0 mauling at the hands of reigning Premier Division champions Sligo Rovers.

And 4-0 was the least it could have been as Sligo rattled the woodwork on three separate occasions, as well as forcing Barry Ryan into several smart saves.

Less than 48 hours after the euphoria of Saturday night’s victory, the Blues and their support were left dejected on a miserable night for the club.

Just 913 fans were on hand to witness the route which began with a Jeff Henderson headed goal in the 26th minute. Sligo were 2-0 up when Gavin Peers headed in another Kieran Djilali corner on 38.

Second half goals by Danny North and Evan McMillan sealed an all too comfortable victory for the visitors.

Limerick look to bounce back away to Bohemians on Friday night.
