MUNSTER’S hopes of securing a home semi-final in the Guinness PRO12 rests on the outcome of this Saturday’s final round of regular season fixtures.
Anthony Foley’s men, currently third in the PRO12 table, host the Dragons at Musgrave Park (3pm) in their final outing of the regular season. The game is live on TG4.
Munster are level with both Glasgow and Ospreys on 70 points. However, Glasgow and Ospreys currently occupy the two home semi-final spots as they boast more wins in the league this season, 15 each, to Munster’s 14.
Ulster are in fourth place in the table on 69 points. While Munster host Welsh region the Dragons on Saturday, Glasgow will entertain Ulster at Scotstoun, while the Ospreys travel to Galway to face Connacht at the Sportsground.
Munster missed out on a golden opportunity to take a giant step towards securing a home semi-final when surrendering a seven-point lead to Ulster late on at Kingspan Stadium on Saturday.
No team has got to the play-offs every season since they were introduced six years ago, but five out of six has been achieved by Munster, Leinster and Glasgow Warriors.
No away team has won a play-off semi-final, so finals have always been between teams finishing first and second in the league.
