LIMERICK FC’s resurgence in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division continued at United Park on Friday night as Stuart Taylor’s charges recorded a smashing 4-1 victory over Drogheda United.
The Blues’ second successive League win saw Taylor’s side jump up to sixth place in the table ahead of next Saturday’s glamour home FAI Ford Cup tie with Bohemians at Thomond Park, 5.30pm
Danny Galbraith, Tam McManus, Shane Duggan and Shane Tracy all scored as Limerick scored their first win in five meetings with the Drogs since the Shannonsiders returned to the top flight last season.
Impressive Limerick took a seventh minute lead as Galbraith finished Patrick Nzuzi’s cross to the bottom corner on seven minutes to make it two goals in a week for the Scottish winger.
That advantage was doubled past the midway point of the first half when Galbraith turned provider to slip in McManus who took his chance in clinical fashion as he blasted to the net from inside the box.
Declan O’Brien scored for the Co Louth side following a corner on the half hour mark to put Drogheda back in it at 2-1.
But Limerick soon restored their two-goal cushion as team captain Shane Duggan found the net with a stunning volley as he scored his first league goal for his hometown team.
Limerick made sure of all three points just five minutes into the second half when Shane Tracy’s corner went all the way into the net.
