The Limerick colleges have been kept apart in the group stages of the 2015 Fitzgibbon Cup - but there are some mouth-watering pairings.
The University of Limerick have arguably the toughest draw of the local teams after being drawn with UCC and Galway based pair GMIT and NUI, Galway.
UL are Limerick’s most successful college in the competitions history with four wins - the most recent being in 2011 where they beat rivals LIT in the final.
Mary I, beaten finalists in 2013, have been drawn to play NUI Maynooth, IT Carlow and defending champions, Waterford IT.
Limerick Institute of Technology reached the semi-finals last year, losing by just a point to WIT. They will look to go one better this year but first must negotiate their way out of a group with University of Ulster Jordanstown and DIT.
The first round of games takes place on Thursday, January 29, with LIT at home to UUJ and Mary I and UL away to NUI Galway and Maynooth respectively.
The final of the Fitzgibbon Cup is on in Limerick’s Gaelic Grounds on February 28 with the semi-finals the day before in LIT.
UL are Limerick’s only side in the Sigerson Cup. They play NUI Maynooth in the first round away from home. The game will either be played on January 27 or February 3. The Sigerson Cup final will be played in UCC on February 21.
