Ardscoil Ris off to winning start in Harty Cup

There was a busy day of Limerick GAA club action this Saturday
Defending champions, Ardscoil Ris, had a big 1-20 to 0-9 victory over Blackwater of Lismore in the opening round of the 2014/15 Harty Cup on Wednesday.

Ronan Lynch was the star of the show scoring 1-9 for the city school.

Meanwhile, Scoil na Troinoide Naofa, Doon were beaten 0-18 to 0-14 by nine time champions St Colman’s from Fermoy.

Last year’s beaten finalists Doon were level 0-9 each at the break but the north Cork school pushed on in the second half.

Both West Limerick Colleges and Castletroy College had byes in the opening rounds.

West Limerick Colleges is made up of students from Rathkeale’s Colaiste Trocaire, Hazlewood College, Dromcollogher and Newcastle West’s Desmond College.

They returned to the competition this year after amalgamations were initially banned from the top level schools tournamnets in Munster.

They will start their campaigns on October 15. They play seven time winners Thurles CBS while Castletroy take on De La Salle from Waterford.

Both Ardscoil Ris and Scoil na Troinoide Naofa, Doon, have byes in round two and will resume their campaign on Novmeber 5.
