THE Limerick footballers found an unlikely goal in injury time to snatch a sensational 1-14 to 1-13 win over Wexford this Sunday afternoon in the Gaelic Grounds.

The Division Three National League win came despite trailing for much of the game.

Indeed John Brudair’s Limerick were 1-11 to 0-8 in arrears after 12-minutes of the second half.

Limerick started the brighter with Ger Collins and Ian Ryan (2frees) points for a 0-3 to no score lead after seven minutes.

But then Wexford got to grips with the seven-man Limerick defence.

In the 11th minute PJ Banville goaled - albeit Mark O’Riordan appeared to be fouled in the build-up

They were soon 1-3 to 0-3 ahead.

Limerick only had points from play from Ian Ryan, Ger Collins and Iain Corbett in the half as Wexford kicked 1-7 from play.

By half time the Model County were 1-8 to 0-6 clear.

Midway through the second half they were 1-11 to 0-8 ahead.

Limerick were no over reliant on the frees of Ian Ryan.

He was to finish with 1-10 of the total of 1-14.

Limerick’s first score from play in the second half was a Seamus O’Carroll point in the 24th minute. That left it 1-12 to 0-11.

Although Limerick were now on the forward foot defeat appeared their lot when Brian Malone had Wexford 1-13 to 0-13 ahead with three minutes to go.

Then in injury time Ian Ryan pointed a free to cut the gap and then over two minutes into the added time, O’Carroll crashed a delivery across a crowded goalmouth and it was Ryan that somehow got a hand to push the ball to the net.
