Limerick siblings impress at Irish Summer National Youth and Senior Swimming Championships

LIMERICK swimming siblings Denis and Lucy O'Brien enjoyed notable successes at the Irish Youth and Senior Championships 2025 at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

Mungret teenager Denis O'Brien won gold in the 400m Freestyle, breaking Olympian Finn McGeever's 2018 record which was which was a 3.59.51. O'Brien lowered the mark when powering home in a time of 3.56.99.

It was a personal best time for the Limerick teenager by almost 3 seconds.  That time has seen O'Brien secure his place on the National Squad next year.

He also achieved the consideration time for the European Aquatic Short Course Championships which take place in Poland in December. 

To cap an excellent meet for Denis, he also won gold in the 200m freestyle event. 

Denis' sister Lucy had a great week also winning gold in the 200m butterfly, gold in the 100m Butterfly, as well as gold in the 400 freestyle and a bronze medal in the 50m fly.
