THE LIMERICK Ladies football team will take on Kerry in the first round of the Munster Senior B Football Championship this Saturday, April 27, in Fr Casey's GAA pitch, Abbeyfeale at 1pm.
Round robin fixtures will come thick and fast for the Treaty team as they face a trip to Cork to take on ‘the Rebels’ the following Saturday, May 4.
The Limerick team will start the Munster Championship off the back of a disappointing 1-7 to 0-6 defeat to Carlow in the Lidl Ladies National League Division Four final earlier this month.
The Treaty ladies did extremely well to gain their place in the Division 4 final with a last gasp victory over favorites Leitrim in the semi-final, which also secured promotion to division three next season. A dramatic goal from Iris Kennelly in the seventh minute of injury time helped the resilient Limerick side get to this years final.
This year's Division 4 final which took place in Birr county Offaly was a difficult pill for Sean Kiely and Mike Quilligan and the rest of the team to swallow after a goal in the closing minutes from Carlow substitute Maeve O'Neill was the difference in the end with driving wind conditions dictating much of the play.
Despite the disappointment of losing the final, the Limerick team can take positives from their league campaign and incredible semi-final win as they battle it out to try and make it to the Senior B Munster final this year.
