LIMERICK FC remain firmly rooted to the foot of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table after suffering a 3-1 defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park on Friday night.

Struggling Limerick looked to be in with a chance of finally recording their first win of the season when leading the Dublin side 1-0 at half-time.

Martin Russell’s side had taken the lead on 24 minutes. Shane Tracy did well to win possession back in the corner and picked out Sean Russell in the box. The midfielder turned smartly, before putting in a low cross which was clinically fired to the net by Dean Clarke.

However, St Pat’s struck back in some style though with goals from Chris Forrester, Aaron Greene and Christy Fagan inside 12 minutes of the restart seeing the Dubliners claim their third straight league victory.

The result leaves Limerick, now winless through their opening 16 Premier Division games, six points behind second-from-bottom Bray Wanderers and seven adrift of 10th-placed Sligo Rovers.

With the Premier Division taking a mid-season break next weekend, Limerick’s next league fixture is a Friday, June 26 meeting with Dundalk at Oriel Park, 7.45pm.
